On Law Day - May 1, 2013 - our friends at the Muslim Coalition of Connecticut were honored by the Supreme Court of the State of CT: "for educating the public on Islam and Muslims at a time when there has been an increase in hate crimes a...nd discrimination directed toward Muslims. Through the Coalition's leadership and many initiatives, it successfully embodies this year's Law Day theme, "Realizing the Dream: Equality for All." The award was presented by Chief Justice Chase T. Rogers. Pictured here with Chief Justice Rogers is the leadership of MC-CT, including Waleed Al-Ghamdi, Professor Yahya Michot of Hartford Seminary, Dr. Reza Mansoor who is also president of the Islamic Association of Greater Hartford (Berlin Mosque), Aida Mansoor, president of MC-CT and CCIU - CT Council for Interreligous Understanding board member, Mokhtar Suleiman, Dr. Ali Shakibai, and Attorney Refai Arefin, current imam at the Berlin Mosque. For more photos of this event, see the Muslim Coalition's Facebook page -- or their website, where you will also find a video of the ceremony, including Refai's keynote speech. Al-hamdulillah and mabruk to our friends at MC-CT for this well-deserved honor!
